Task-specific scan trajectory modification for dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography with high throughput

Extending the scan trajectory for X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) from the typical circular shape (360∘ rotation of the measurement object with homogeneous scan angle steps) to freely selectable image acquisition poses provides the opportunity to reduce measurement errors through suitable trajectory modification. In this paper, such a trajectory adaptation is achieved by using a hexapod as measurement object manipulator and a quality parameter-based methodology for selecting individual trajectory points. The results show significant advantages of the modified trajectory, especially for a small number of projections, which is particularly relevant with regard to high-throughput inline CT.
